About Moira
Moira Cook brings a rare combination of legal expertise and clinical insight to the classroom. She practiced law for over a decade at a leading Bay Street firm, focusing on high-conflict estate litigation. In that role, she navigated complex ethical issues daily, interpreting and applying legal codes, professional conduct rules, and legislative frameworks that governed the profession. This experience honed her skills in analyzing statutes, case law, and professional standards—skills she now applies to the mental health field.
Following her legal career, Moira earned a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and became a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Her therapeutic work includes supporting individuals in high-stress professions, helping them manage ethical dilemmas, professional boundaries, and confidentiality challenges in real-world practice.
Moira’s dual background equips her to teach ethics in a way that is both academically rigorous and grounded in lived professional experience. She offers students a practical understanding of:
- Codes of Ethics for Therapists – interpreting and applying the CRPO Standards of Practice and related codes.
- Relevant Legislation – including privacy laws, consent requirements, and mandatory reporting obligations.
- Ethical Decision-Making Frameworks – combining legal reasoning with clinical judgment.
- Professional Boundaries and Self-Care – recognizing how ethical practice intersects with therapist well-being.
With first-hand knowledge of two professions bound by strict codes of conduct, Moira prepares future therapists to navigate the complex interplay between law, ethics, and compassionate care.
