Biopsychosocial and spiritual Approach to Counselling Psychotherapy

This course introduces students to a biopsychosocial and spiritual for counselling psychotherapy that draws upon the physical, mental, social and spiritual health disciplines creating an interdisciplinary model. This model is illustrated through examining mental health concerns, social and cultural understanding, personal role of counsellor’s identity and spiritual frameworks.

Assessment in Counselling Psychotherapy

This course provides students with an understanding of the concepts and principles involved in psychological assessment, standardized and non-standardized instruments, clinical assessment, testing and evaluation.

Counselling Psychotherapy Methodology from Psychodynamic – Humanistic

This course provides a foundation of contemporary psychodynamic and humanistic approaches to counselling psychotherapy. Students will explore the links between theory and practice, techniques and interventions.

Counselling Psychotherapy Methodologies Third Wave

This course will examine some of the core theories and methods of the most commonly recognized and utilized therapeutic models both Cognitive and Behavioral.

Counselling Psychotherapy Ethical Standards

This course will provide the students with an overview of the code of ethics, standards of practice and models of engaging in ethical decision-making of regulatory bodies. Ethics focuses on applying ethical principles to clinical activities and other related professional responsibilities regarding ethical decisions, personal values, professional competence, informed consent, confidentiality integrating theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Counselling Psychotherapy Research Methodology

This course provides students with the tools needed to critically review and evaluate scientific research and develop the basic elements of a research proposal. Scientific methods will be explored to study all aspects of scientific research, including basic design, interpretation of results, drawing of conclusions, and integrate it with daily practice.

Counselling Psychotherapy Group Counselling

This course provides basic knowledge and understanding of group dynamics, ethical concerns, group facilitation, and competencies.

Counselling Psychotherapy Skills and Competencies

This course provides the opportunity to learn basic counselling skills and competencies essential to initiating and maintaining therapeutic relationships. Students engage in case conceptualization and theoretical perspectives and approaches in counselling psychotherapy.

Counselling Psychotherapy Applying Interventions

This course provides students in both practice and implementation planning of change interventions applied in counselling.

Counselling Psychotherapy Couples and Family Systems

This course is designed to provide the student with the skills and competencies necessary to effectively counsel interpersonal and intrapersonal dynamics of relationships and family systems.

Cultural Diversity in Counselling Psychotherapy

This course will provide the skills necessary for multicultural competence to enhance the role of personal, ethnic, social and cultural factors in counselling which guide interventions.

Counselling Psychotherapy Psychopathology

This course is to provide the knowledge and understanding needed for students working with disturbed functioning in the areas of cognition, emotion and behavior in the five aspects of: diagnosis, prognosis, epidemiology, etiology and treatment.

Counselling Psychotherapy Addiction Counselling

This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of addiction treatment, psychotherapeutic modalities, approaches and treatment setting options.

Children and Youth Counselling Psychotherapy

This course provides information pertinent to working with children and youth in promoting healthy relationships, addressing social problems, and mental health concerns.

Crisis and Trauma Counselling Psychotherapy

This course is designed to provide students with both a theoretical and practical understanding of issues surrounding trauma, client resourcing and stabilization, theoretical frameworks, and self-care.

Practicum

This course is designed to evaluate student’s counselling competencies, integrating theory with practice, embracing diversity, resolving ethical dilemmas, collaborating across disciplines, accessing and utilizing supervision, and developing professional identity.
