About Shane
Hi! My name is Shane, and I’m an outgoing, friendly, and highly social person who genuinely enjoys meeting people, getting involved in the community, and helping others get more out of their social lives.
My younger brother has a learning disability, so I’ve grown up with firsthand experience supporting, spending time with, and looking out for someone who may experience or approach certain things differently. That experience has taught me patience, understanding, adaptability, and-most importantly-the importance of treating everyone as an individual rather than defining someone by a disability.
I’m also a stand-up comedian and comedy show producer, which means being social and engaging with people is a huge part of my life. Producing live events has also given me experience with organization, problem-solving, communication, and being responsible for other people while keeping things fun and positive. I’m very comfortable meeting new people and tend to get along easily with people from all kinds of backgrounds and personalities.
Outside of comedy, I enjoy video games, movies and entertainment, exploring new places, and generally having a good time with good people. I’m equally comfortable heading out for an activity or event, grabbing something to eat, playing video games for an afternoon, or simply hanging out and talking.
I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, which has given me a strong background in communication, interpersonal relationships, professionalism, and working effectively with different people.
What appeals to me most about respite work is the opportunity to provide companionship that feels natural and genuine. My goal is to build real rapport, find common interests, have some laughs, and provide a safe, dependable person to spend time with-whether that’s out in the community or just hanging out at home.
I’m outgoing and energetic, but I’m also patient and adaptable. I understand that everyone has different interests, personalities, comfort levels, and support needs. I’m happy to meet people where they’re at and find activities we can genuinely enjoy together.
At the end of the day, I’d like the people I work with to look forward to the time we spend together, and for their families to know they’re spending that time with someone responsible, respectful, and trustworthy.
