About Marissa

Marissa is a warmhearted and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about helping individuals work through a variety of concerns and build individual strength in a manner that is unique to each individual. Marissa has completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology coursework through Yorkville University. She is currently completing her practicum alongside Laurie Ponsford-Hill through The Counselling House. Prior to this, Marissa received her Bachelor of Applied Science in Child, Youth and Family through the University of Guelph, along with an Early Childhood Education Certification. She then completed a Graduate Certificate in Autism and Behavioural Science through Fanshawe College.

Marissa has worked with children as a preschool and Montessori preschool teacher. She has worked extensively in the Autism and Behavioural Intervention Program with children, youths, and their families. Marissa has had experience working in a shelter and on a crisis line for Women and Children who have experienced domestic and sexual violence. She is excited to continue to develop her counselling skills as she begins her career as a counsellor.

Marissa is excited to be able to offer her counselling services for free through this program at The Counselling House. She works to encourage each individual from an approach of non-judgement that integrates many different styles.
